through. you mentioned appealing president obama's health care reform law. that is something that will continue to be hotly debated. we have two more debates left. there is a lot of uncertainty about not only what obamas's second term will look like, but what a mitt romney first term will look like as he takes the white house in november. host: an e-mail sent from ohio. isn't the question of wages more important than jobs? the person making minimum wage is no better off and someone receiving welfare. to the point about wages, what do we find out there from the release of the report? guest: i do not know the exact details of the report in terms of wages going up or down. he makes a good point. wages are important. welfare is something that president obama and mitt romney have been trading barbs over as to whether the president is someone capable of turning this country into a place where people do not have to rely so much on government subsidies because they are out of work. i think that issue is very politically charged and we will see it debated in the coming weeks. host: ch

to 7.8% last month down 0.3 percentage points since august. the lowest since obama took office in 2009. they added 114,000 non-farm jobs. the non-farm sector is considered particularly sensitive to economic trends. 44,000 jobs were added in the health care sector. manufacturing employment edged down shedding 16,000 jobs. for analysis we spoke to gene maki. >> the unemployment rate has been falling. it's fallen from a peak of about 10% to about 7.8%. we think that decline will continue. so we believe that a year from now at the end of 2013, the unemployment rate will be at 7.1%. so moderate job growth is enough in the u.s. to push the unemployment rate down and that's what we've been seeing and continue to see. that's what we expect as we look ahead. we think if the fourth quarter job growth continues, reasonable 160,000 per month. and we do expect that to lead to further declines in the unemployment rate in coming months. the september employment rate will undoubtedly be seen as a positive factor for president obama's re-election. however, i'm skeptical that this one report is really g

to reach asian american voters and how does it care to the obama campaign strategy. how can the campaigns do a better job, in your view? >> certainly the romney campaign is going back to its argument that top-end tax cuts will help business owners, specifically. but if you look at the engagement that's happening on president obama's campaign, it's very fascinating. it's been focused at the neighborhood level, probably at an unusually early part of the cycle, they started doing the field operations. they're also organizing online, through a digital dashboard. so that these constituents can organize themselves. and that's probably the most interesting thing about this election cycle. you're seeing a new generation of candidates from within the community starting to challenge the debate in the country. you're starting to see activists who are actually forcing changes that wouldn't otherwise happen. and it's that organization at the ground that's going to make the biggest difference. and frankly, candidates across the board would be intelligent to be engaging in that conversation. >> toby, ho

in 2008. now he has decided that obama hates treasurys so he gives a lot of money to romney. he is still a donor. he has a lot of interest either way. i do not really care about that distinction. and frankly, i actually found it quite shocking to see governor romney in a speech taking a set of positions about the middle east that, to say the least, box him in in a way presidents do not usually want to be boxed in. it was a rather tight commitment that mitt romney made with that donor in the front row. i am troubled by that, and i have an argument with a friend of mine. he has other priorities as well. i do not think it matters. you want to create a structure where elected officials are not wholly dependent on a given donor or not largely dependent. you want them to be in a situation where if they are in office and they really want x, y, z, you want the elected officials to go as senator mccain seriously did "get out of my office." >> so, there i would make the republican plea for judicial modesty and say, look, the discussion we have had indicates there is not a simple open and shut canc
